Ipswich East Rotary Club has announced that the date of the 43rd Orwell Challenge

Will be Sunday the 23rd of June 2019

Orwell Walk, Run and Cycle

The Orwell Challenge Walk, and Run has 3 principal routes for walkers and trail runners of 13, 19 or 25 miles with the option to complete a marathon length trail run if required, but you can finish at any checkpoint on the route if you so wish, and will be transported back to HQ.

This is a challenge for all abilities – everyone is welcome to take part – not just the fittest amongst us!

The Orwell Challenge Cycle Ride offers two options, a short route of 5 miles and a medium route of 15 miles. All routes are well signposted and have regular, manned checkpoints where cold drinks (water and squash) and toilet facilities are available.

The Walk, Run or Cycle Ride begin and ends at the Gainsborough Sports Centre, Ipswich, where there is free parking and refreshments available throughout the day. The Walk, Run, or Cycle are three separate events, all fully marshalled. Volunteers from Ipswich East Rotary Club, and their Associate Members are on hand to lend support to any walkers, runners or cyclists who have reached their maximum distance and need a ride back to base.

The Walk, Run, or Cycle routes follow the banks of the stunning River Orwell as it makes its way towards Felixstowe, returning on inland routes through farmland and wooded sections back to the Gainsborough Sports Centre. Some of the route is over private land so the Walk, Run, or Cycle Ride offer the opportunity to see parts of the countryside not usually accessible to the public. For this reason the only dogs allowed on the event are those accompanying visually impaired participants.

Last year’s Walk, Run or Cycle Ride was attended by almost 800 people, all raising money for their chosen charities or a range of Charities and good causes supported by the Rotary Club.

We are delighted to have the East of Engand COOP as our main sponsor again this year

There is a registration fee of £15 per adult and £10 per child (under 12's). This covers the administration costs of the event, free drinks at check points, certificate and medal for every participant, all surplus funds are donated to charity so simply by entering the event you are helping a charity or good cause.

Walkers, Runners and Cyclists are encouraged to wear bright colours if they wish, emphasising the colour they bring to the charities they support.
